At Dukes of the South, we leave nothing to chance. Testing for Lafora disease is mandatory for our breeding dogs, while other genetic tests are voluntary. We collaborate with leading veterinary laboratories to ensure our puppies have the best start in life.
Musladin-Leuke Syndrome (MLS)
OptionalHereditary connective tissue disorder. Affected dogs have tight skin and joints, often standing on tiptoes.
Neonatal Cerebellar Cortical Degeneration (NCCD)
OptionalNeurological disease affecting movement coordination. Manifests in puppies.
Imerslund-Gräsbeck Syndrome (IGS)
OptionalVitamin B12 malabsorption, leading to anemia and failure to thrive.

The health tests above fulfil one of the Five Freedoms of welfare — health. The other four cover space, movement, natural behaviour and calm in dogs' everyday lives. That is why we joined the Beagle Welfare Czechia programme and put its Five Freedoms into practice, not just on paper.
