Tropical Klatovy: How Our Beagles Shined Under the Morning Sun of Šumava

The last Saturday of June belonged to one of the most anticipated events of this year's show season – the National Dog Show in Klatovy. As the Dukes of the South kennel, dedicated to breeding our beloved Beagles, we could not miss this event. We headed to the heart of West Bohemia with our two promising boys, Falco and Jeffrey. Although one of the hottest days of the year awaited us, we returned home with immense pride, great results, and a heap of unforgettable memories.

Our Boys' Results

Both of them certainly held their own and brought home wonderful evaluations:

• Jeffrey – Excellent 1 (V1), CAJC
• Falco – Excellent 2 (V2), res. CAC

Both boys showed that they possess not only an excellent body structure and typical elegant movement, but also a wonderful temperament, thanks to which they handled the demanding day with grace.

Atmosphere and the Course of the Day: Wake-up Call at the Crack of Dawn

The weather forecast for Saturday, June 27, 2026, promised extreme tropical temperatures that would have been exhausting for both dogs and their humans during the day. However, the organizers reacted absolutely professionally and, with animal welfare in mind, made a bold but great decision – they moved the start of the show to a very early 5:00 AM.

Waking up was painful, but as soon as we arrived at the venue, we proved the organizers right. The morning air in Klatovy was still pleasantly cool and dew sparkled on the grass. The atmosphere in the early morning hours had an irreplaceable charm. Although all exhibitors were a bit sleepy, an unusually calm, focused, and friendly mood prevailed.

When our Beagles from Dukes of the South stepped into the show ring, the sun was just beginning to warm up. Jeffrey literally danced in the ring and his temperament earned him a well-deserved Excellent 1 rating with the CAJC title. Falco showed himself in full glory, demonstrated his excellent standard, and took home a beautiful second place with an Excellent 2 rating and the res. CAC title. Before the worst of the midday heat could strike, we were all done.

This show was a great experience for us. Our huge thanks go to the judge, Mr. Sergej Vanzha, for his professional, meticulous, and very fair judging, which we deeply appreciate.

Likewise, we want to pay a deep tribute to the entire organizing team of the National Dog Show in Klatovy. Managing the logistics and completely reorganizing the schedule of such a large event due to the weather requires a tremendous effort. Thanks to their perfect preparation and quick response to the extreme heat, everything went smoothly and safely for all two-legged and four-legged participants.
