Jeff is the New Austrian Junior Champion from the Salzburg Show
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, we attended the Alpensieger CACIB II International Dog Show in Salzburg, Austria, with our young Beagle Jeff. Jeff competed in the Junior Class and performed brilliantly – judge Viera Staviarska awarded him Excellent 1, CAJC, CACIB-J and the BOJ title (Best of Junior). By earning this final required CAJC certificate, Jeff successfully completed the conditions to be awarded the title of Austrian Junior Champion.

We set off for Salzburg, a picturesque city nestled right in the heart of the Alps, immediately following the club show in Kestřany, South Bohemia. The journey went smoothly and without complications. The exhibition center facilities were a huge advantage – we made use of the option to camp in the parking lot right next to the exhibition halls, which provided both us and Jeff with the necessary peace and comfort ahead of the show day itself. Following reports of extreme heat in the halls on Saturday, we were pleasantly surprised on Sunday by the well-managed climate inside the venue.

In the ring itself, Jeff delivered a very nice and focused performance. The judging by Viera Staviarska was fair, and Jeff presented himself in great condition and high spirits, which was reflected in winning the full set of titles available in the junior category. We are especially delighted to have completed the Austrian Junior Championship, which marks another valuable milestone for our kennel Dukes of the South.

The afternoon finals left us with a less positive impression. The organization of the junior finals was very rushed. The juniors entered the main ring in bulk groups by FCI group, and the selection took place at such a rapid pace that exhibitors often didn't even have time to properly stack their dogs into a show stance. Only a single representative was swiftly selected from each group, which somewhat overshadowed the overall experience of the final ring.
Despite the mixed feelings about the final competitions, we consider the Salzburg show a great success. We thank the judge for the wonderful critique and appreciation of Jeff's qualities, and we look forward to the next show challenges awaiting us in the adult classes.
